Mule & Tenant Farmer

Mule & Tenant Farmer

The Mule & Tenant Farmer statue is located at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter in Perry and pays tribute to the farmers and the farm animals upon whose backs much of the economy of the South, and Georgia in particular, was based for many years after the Civil War. The mule pulls a Boy Dixie brand plow. The artists, Don Haugen and Teena Stern, were inspired by Jimmy Carter’s memoir An Hour before Daylight.
